Every zodiac season brings its own unique energy, shaping the collective mood and highlighting certain themes for all of us to explore. Through the lens of Tarot, the Major Arcana card associated with the season reveals the bigger lesson or archetype influencing the time, while the three decans and their corresponding Minor Arcana cards show how that energy evolves and unfolds over the course of the season. This month we explore Cancer Season with the Major Arcana Tarot cards of The Chariot, and the Minor Arcana Cards of the 3 Decans - 2 of Cups, 3 of Cups and 4 of Cups, plus additional cards pulled for the energy of this particular Cancer Season.
Rather than being a fixed influence, each season tells a story in three chapters. The first decan introduces the season's themes, the second deepens and develops them, and the third helps us integrate what we've learned before moving into the next zodiac cycle. Together, astrology and tarot offer a symbolic roadmap for understanding the opportunities, challenges, and growth available during the season.
During Cancer Season, it is the Crab who steps forward with their Mantra of I Feel, which considering that Cancer is a Cardinal Water Sign ruled by the Moon, which heightens Cancer’s emotional awareness, intuition, nurturing instincts, and sensitivity to moods and environments, makes perfect sense. Cancer’s role is to actively explore the entire realm of human emotion, and this can show up particularly in areas around home, family, emotional security and nurturing, while any potential challenges coming up during this time could be associated with moodiness, defensiveness or difficulty letting go.
Cancer’s Major Arcana card is the Chariot, which represents determination, self-control, movement, and the integration of opposing forces. Rather than suppressing emotion, it suggests steering emotion with intention. The Chariot asks: Can you let your heart lead without letting your emotions drive uncontrollably?
Viewed symbolically, The Chariot provides the overarching lesson of Cancer season: emotional mastery through purposeful direction. The three Minor Arcana cards then show how that lesson unfolds over the course of the month.
The three decans answer that question in stages.
In the First Decan at the beginning of the season, we have the Two of Cups and here the Chariot's energy softens into partnership. Instead of charging ahead alone, progress comes through mutual understanding and trust.
The interaction suggests:
Choosing relationships that support your direction.
Reconciling inner opposites (logic and emotion, independence and intimacy).
Beginning a new emotional journey through cooperation.
While the Chariot supplies the willpower, the Two of Cups reminds us that some victories are achieved through union rather than conquest. Key phrase: "Move together."
In the Second Decan as we move into the middle of the season, we have the Three of Cups and here the Chariot's momentum expands beyond one-to-one relationships into a wider circle.
The interaction suggests:
Finding strength through friendship and chosen family.
Celebrating milestones instead of constantly pushing toward the next goal.
Emotional success being shared rather than solitary.
While the Chariot can sometimes be intensely focused, the Three of Cups reminds the traveler to enjoy companionship and acknowledge collective support. Key phrase: "Move with your community."
Rounding out the season as we move into the 3rd Decan we have the Four of Cups now the Chariot wants forward movement, but the Four of Cups pauses to ask whether the destination still matters. It can represent emotional fatigue, withdrawal, or overlooking new opportunities while focused on old disappointments.
Their interaction creates an interesting tension:
The Chariot says "keep moving."
The Four of Cups says "check whether you're moving toward what truly fulfills you."
While that could been seen as stagnation, it can also be understood as a strategic pause to realign purpose with feeling. Key phrase: "Pause before the next journey."
Throughout the month, The Chariot serves as the guiding force, encouraging emotional maturity and intentional movement. The season's lesson can be seen as: Open your heart, build your emotional world, then consciously choose what deserves to accompany you into the next chapter.
How will you integrate this into your life this Cancer Season as the additional cards from the above reading play out?
