Every zodiac season brings its own unique energy, shaping the collective mood and highlighting certain themes for all of us to explore. Through the lens of Tarot, the Major Arcana card associated with the season reveals the bigger lesson or archetype influencing the time, while the three decans and their corresponding Minor Arcana cards show how that energy evolves and unfolds over the course of the season.

Rather than being a fixed influence, each season tells a story in three chapters. The first decan introduces the season's themes, the second deepens and develops them, and the third helps us integrate what we've learned before moving into the next zodiac cycle. Together, astrology and tarot offer a symbolic roadmap for understanding the opportunities, challenges, and growth available during the season.  This month we are exploring Libra Season with the Major Arcana Tarot card of Justice, and the Minor Arcana Cards of the 3 Decans – 2 of Swords, 3 of Swords and 4 of Swords, plus additional cards pulled to reflect the energy of this particular Leo Season.

During Libra Season, September 23 through to October 22, the Scales are highlighted with their Mantra of I Balance.  Libra is a Cardinal Air Sign ruled by Venus which highlights Libra’s fairness, aesthetic balance, diplomacy, desire for harmony and relationships. In Libra season, Justice teaches balance and accountability, and this can show up in areas around relationships, balance, beauty and cooperation, while any potential challenges coming up at this time could be associated with indecision, people-pleasing, avoiding conflict.

Libra’s Major Arcana card is Justice which represents balance, accountability, truth, ethics, and the law of cause and effect. Unlike the emotional judgments of the heart, Justice weighs circumstances objectively. The scales seek equilibrium, while the sword cuts through illusion and rationalization. The essential question of Libra season becomes: What is the fairest and truest course of action, even when it is difficult?

Viewed symbolically, Justice seeks equilibrium between opposing forces. This archetype confronts the reality that every choice has consequences and that true balance requires accountability. It represents the psyche's drive toward integrity and conscious alignment. A core question to ask is What would it mean to be fully responsible for my choices?

In the 1st Decan with the Two of Swords (Moon in Libra) the season starts with uncertainty.  The Two of Swords depicts a moment where opposing perspectives are held in tension. Although there is a desire to preserve peace we have to accept that we cannot avoid a decision forever.  Here Justice will transform this stalemate into an exercise in discernment. We need to remember that the lesson is not about choosing something quickly but rather choosing fairly after weighing up all the options The interaction suggests that gathering information before acting, remaining impartial, and recognizing that neutrality is only temporary. Keeping in mind that eventually maintain balance will require some movement.

in the 2nd Decan we have the Three of Swords (Saturn in Libra), a card that traditionally is associated with heartbreak, however we should remember that it can also symbolize painful truths that cannot remain hidden.  Justice deepens this meaning by emphasizing that some endings or disappointments are necessary in order to restore integrity. The interaction highlights confronting uncomfortable realities, accepting accountability, allowing grief to reveal deeper wisdom, and recognizing that clarity often arrives through loss.  While Justice's sword will cut away illusion, the Three of Swords will reveal the emotional cost of that clarity.

In the 3rd Decan we have the Four of Swords (Jupiter in Libra), which invoices us to retreat, not to avoid, but to allow an integration.  Justice reminds us here that reflection is an essential part of ethical living.  If we want to make wise choices we would do well to remember that before moving on to the next cycle, it would be highly advantageous for us to take some time and space and process the experience. This interaction encourages mental and emotional restoration, meditation and contemplation, as well as reviewing lessons learned and rebuilding inner equilibrium and we find that the disturbance felt at the beginning of the season is gradually being brought back into balance.

In Libra Season, as Justice interacts with each of the three Decans, we are reminded that decisions require clarity (Two of Swords), and although Truth might be painful, it is necessary (Three of Swords), as is taking the time to reflect so that we can integrate what we have learned and heal through understanding (Four of Swords).  When we take the time to work through this process, instead of leaning on avoidance techniques, we will find ways to move with integrity to finding peace and balance.

How will the backdrop to Libra Season play out for you in your life this year, particularly when you incorporate that additional cards drawn in the above reading?
