Every zodiac season brings its own unique energy, shaping the collective mood and highlighting certain themes for all of us to explore. Through the lens of Tarot, the Major Arcana card associated with the season reveals the bigger lesson or archetype influencing the time, while the three decans and their corresponding Minor Arcana cards show how that energy evolves and unfolds over the course of the season.

Rather than being a fixed influence, each season tells a story in three chapters. The first decan introduces the season's themes, the second deepens and develops them, and the third helps us integrate what we've learned before moving into the next zodiac cycle. Together, astrology and tarot offer a symbolic roadmap for understanding the opportunities, challenges, and growth available during the season.  This month we are exploring Scorpio Season with the Major Arcana Tarot card of Death, and the Minor Arcana Cards of the 3 Decans – 5 of Cups, 6 of Cups and 7 of Cups, plus additional cards pulled to reflect the energy of this particular Season.

During Scorpio Season, October 23 through to November 22, the Scorpion is highlighted with its Mantra of I Create.  Scorpio is a Fixed Water sign and is ruled by Pluto, although traditionally it was ruled by Mars. Pluto's keyword on this card is Rebirth.

Scorpio’s Major Arcana card is Death which in Scorpio season, brings transformation, endings, rebirth, emotional depth and profound personal evolution. The gift here is the understanding that endings are gateways to renewal and the evolutionary task is to surrender what no longer serves our growth, and to trust the cycles of death and rebirth that continually shape our evolution. The essential question of the Scorpio seasons becomes: What must be released so that life can continue to evolve?

Viewed symbolically, Death is the archetype of psychic transformation. This archetype governs the necessary endings through which the personality sheds outgrown identities.  The shadow fears loss and clings to the familiar, the mature archetype understands that renewal requires surrender.  Its core question asks: What must die so that something more authentic can live?

In the 1st Decan with the Five of Cups (Mars in Scorpio) the season starts with confrontation.  The Five of Cups depicts disappointment and mourning, focusing on what has been spilled and ignoring what remains.  Here under the influence of Death, grief becomes a threshold rather than a destination.  This interaction suggests acknowledging sorrow instead of avoiding it, accepting that endings carry emotional weight, and recognizing that loss creates space for transformation.  With the Death card we are encouraged to turn towards what remains rather than to cling to what cannot return.  We are reminded that it is Time to Release what is gone.

in the 2nd Decan we have the Six of Cups (Sun in Scorpio) and represents memory, innocence, reconciliation and the past. Here in the middle of Scorpio season, we are reminded that after loss comes remembrance. Here Death changes this card’s tone by asking whether memories are nourishing growth or keeping us attached to identities we have already outgrown.  This interaction highlights honoring the past without living in it, healing old emotional wounds, reconnecting with authentic innocence, and integrating rather than repeating history.  We are reminded that transformation does not erase memory but gives it new meaning.  We are invited to carry the memory, but not the attachment.

In the 3rd Decan we have the Seven of Cups (Venus in Scorpio) and represents imagination, temptation, possibility and illusion. This final decan turns our attention to the future. Death interacts with the Seven of Cups by demanding discernment through elimination.  Rather than asking What do I want? Together Death and the seven of cups asks What Illusion must die so that authentic desire can emerge?  We are being encouraged to release fantasies that no longer serve us, to choose depth over endless possibilities and allow transformation to clarify purposes.  We are invited to let illusion fall away.

In Scorpio Season, as Death interacts with each of the three Decans, we are reminded that accepting grief is the beginning of transformation (5 of Cups), honoring the past while allowing yourself to change (6 of Cups) and releasing illusion to discover authentic desire (Seven of Cups) will help us move through an emotional rebirth.  What begins as loss evolves into reconciliation with the past and culminates in a clearer vision of the future.

How will the backdrop to Scorpio Season play out for you in your life this year, particularly when you incorporate that additional cards drawn in the above reading?
