Pogostemon cablin
The card that popped out for the Sunday Essential Oil Reflection was Patchouli.
Patchouli with its strong, musty, spicy aroma has antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, astringent, carminative, decongestant and febrifuge properties.
It is helpful for soothing migraine, neuralgia and nervous exhaustion and can also be helpful for bad memory and dizziness, as well as for shock, sadness and fear.
While its antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and cell regenerator properties make it a good choice for conditions such as dermatitis, acne, athlete’s foot, cracked & dry skin and simple water retention. Patchouli's balancing, calming and tonic properties make it helpful for nervous exhaustion, anxiety, nervous tension, lethargy and stress related problems. At low doses it is a sedative, while at high doses it is stimulating. It helps to ground when there are feelings of neglect or detachment from one’s body. It is also an excellent insect repellent.
Energetically, Patchouli is for grounding and it strengthens the will to live. It taps into the energies of Mother Earth to help bring us to a calm and centered place. This can in turn help to relax and calm an overactive intellect. Patchouli can help us to define who we are at our core and how we want to express this in the world. Patchouli is also considered to be effective in money, sex and physical energy blends.
