Piper nigrum

The card that popped out for my Sunday Essential Oil Reflection is Black Pepper.  Black Pepper is for Accountability. It also stimulates and improves digestion!

Black Pepper with its hot, spicy aroma has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic (urinary), antispasmodic, carminative, expectorant, febrifuge stimulant, tonic and warming properties. It can be used as a mental stimulant as it aids alertness and stamina, counteracting lethargy and mental fatigue.  It is beneficial for the conscious mind.  It brings courage, warms indifference and eases life changes.

Black Pepper’s expectorant and decongestant properties are helpful for catarrh, chronic bronchitis, laryngitis and tonsillitis.  Its warming properties can warm chills.  It is excellent for muscular aches and pains, arthritis, sciatic and neuralgia.  It can be used before sports to help tone muscles.  Its stimulating properties can help to stimulate the appetite, as well as other digestive system problems like constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea and vomiting.  It is thought that it stimulates the kidneys and urinary system, which can cause increased urine flow.

Energetically, Black Pepper can be used for protection and to promote courage.  It can enhance the desire to get going on a new project or getting on with a new direction in life.  It also helps you to focus on what it is you want to manifest.  Use Black Pepper when you need to find the courage to deal with anger.

Caution: Black Pepper can irritate more sensitive skin, so when using topically start with a lower dose.
