For January’s Meditation and Energy Healing Session with the Goddess, the card I drew from Kris Waldherr's Goddess Inspiration Oracle Deck was the goddess Athena. Join me in the Meditation and Energy Healing Session with the goddess Athena above.
Kris Waldherr calls Athena, the Goddess of Wisdom, with the Keywords: Brilliance, Reason, Independence and the Message: Be Independent. Listen to the wisdom within yourself. In the introduction to her Goddess Inspiration Oracle Guide she says: Affirmations offer a direct way to put the Divine Feminine into action. They allow us to change negative thought patters, thus freeing us to create a new road map for our lives. Affirmations also empower us to be self-sufficient - since we are giving ourselves positive feedback, we are not so reliant on others for praise. All of her Goddess Messages can easily be changed to an Affirmation. Athena’s Affirmation: I am independent and listen to the wisdom within myself.
She continues:
Athena chose to devote herself to wisdom and art, thus avoiding the romantic intrigues of the gods and goddesses. The goddess's primary physical attribute are her bright grey eyes, which suggest her clarity of purpose. Though many associate Athena with war, she often used reason over force to outwit her enemies. She is also noted for her skill as an artisan.
In her Book of Goddesses, she also says:
A goddess of peace, and a goddess of art, too many still know only of wise Athena's skill at battle instead of her championship of the creative arts. It was for these powers as an artist that she was first valued throughout the ancient world of the Greek Isles. She also says that Athena was the creator of many arts and crafts like weaving, architecture, pottery and many more. She finishes her entry on Athena with the following: Today, many women associate Athena's wise creativity with career aspirations rather than artistic inspiration. While careers often allow room for the creative, it is important to express our artistry outside the workplace as well as within it. The story of Athena encourages us to pursue any latent creative talents we may possess.
Patricia Monaghan, in her book The Goddess Path, Myths, Invocations & Rituals gives Athena the Keyword: Strength. In part of her chapter on Athena she says: The warrior strength of Athena is not based on aggression. Rather, she represents defensive strength, the ability to stand one's ground and not be moved. Yet the distinction between aggression and defense is an extraordinarily difficult one to make. Aggression disguises itself as defense in the interpersonal as well as the international arenas. Athena's wisdom is extremely important in learning to use defensive strength appropriately.
Where in your life can you draw a little more on Athena's energy to help support or enhance your life?
