The card I drew from Kris Waldherr's Goddess Inspiration Oracle Deck  for June's Meditation Healing and Energy Session was the goddess Demeter.  Join me in the Meditation and Energy Healing Session with the goddess Demeter above.

Kris Waldherr calls Demeter, the Mother, with the Keywords: The Seasons, Motherhood, Loss and the Message: Honor the divinity of your grief.  Then spring will return.  In the introduction to her Goddess Inspiration Oracle Guide she says: Affirmations offer a direct way to put the Divine Feminine into action. They allow us to change negative thought patters, thus freeing us to create a new road map for our lives. Affirmations also empower us to be self-sufficient - since we are giving ourselves positive feedback, we are not so reliant on others for praise. All of her Goddess Messages can easily be changed to an Affirmation. Demeter’s Affirmation: I am honoring the divinity of my grief while I wait for spring to return!

She continues:

Demeter, Greek goddess of the harvest, is considered the mother archetype of the triple goddess.  Her story has offered consolation through the ages to mothers everywhere and serves to explain the seasons.

Her story is intrinsically linked with that of her daughter Persephone, whose story I shared in February when Persephone was the Goddess who guided us through that meditation and energy healing.

As she mentions in her Book of Goddesses,

Not only does the myth with Persephone explain the origin of the seasons, it offers hope to mothers who suffer the isolation of the empty nest.  The winter of sadness and deprivation will pass.  Spring will arrive again if we are patient. One of the most important rituals associated with Demeter was the Thesmophoria.  Called “the festival of sorrow”, by the Boeotians, the Thesmophoria was celebrated by married women and mothers each October.  As a reenactment of Demeter’s grief over her separation from Persephone, this ritual of mourning and catharsis offered women a chance to express difficult feelings associated with motherhood and marriage.  For may, it also allowed them the only chance they had all year to leave their homes and family responsibilities to spend time with other women.

In her Goddess Oracle Deck Guidebook, Katja Perez recommends the following ritual to connect to Demeter:  Engage in an act of nurturing such as gardening or feeding birds.  Then reflect on how this act helps something to grow and thrive.

In her Goddess Power Oracle Guidebook, Colette Baron-Reid  gives Demeter the Keyword: Nurturer and her Empowerment Message includes:

Giving to others is a wonderful feeling! When you have a healthy sense of yourself, you want to share your love, your inspiration, and your experience, and the exchange feels clean.  Your boundaries are fluid yet strong.

The Greek goddess of grain, motherhood and the harvest, Demeter, reminds you that a harvest is meant to be shared.  You’ve now tapped into her nurturing love, which is abundant, and your well-meaning gestures will be received with gratitude and in some way returned to you tenfold.

Now is the time to nourish yourself too, for giving must be balanced by receiving.  Allow yourself to feel how the universe is like a wonderful nurturing mother that is always there when you need her.  Demeter says to trust that you are loved and cared for all day, every day, and for all time – especially now.

Patricia Monaghan, in her book The Goddess Path, Myths, Invocations & Rituals combines Demeter with Persephone with the Keyword: initiation and once again you will be able to read what she shared about both in the Persephone blog.

According to Mastermindcontent.co.uk, one of the key lessons we can learn from the Demeter archetype is self-worth.  Self-worth is developed through self-respect and self-care.  When we adopt these qualities, we give and receive care and respect from others.

Where in your life can you draw a little more on Demeter's energy to help support or enhance your life?
