Lemon for Optimism

The card that popped out for my Sunday Essential Oil Reflection is Lemon.  Lemon is for optimism, it helps to clear emotional confusion!

Lemon with its fresh, clean, light, lemony aroma has refreshing, mentally stimulating, reviving and soothing properties.  I use it in blends to help clear brain fog and promote concentration.  I have found it helpful for headaches and insomnia.  Its familiar, comforting aroma can be helpful when someone has had a nightmare.

Because I know that lemon has such wonderful antispasmodic and calming properties, I will often add it to blends for respiratory conditions.  Its antimicrobial, antiseptic, antiviral properties will also help deal with infections.  I also find it to be very helpful in blends created around digestive challenges.

Energetically, I find Lemon helps to lift the spirits and increase inner joy and optimism.  Just as it clears on the physical level it will clear and cleanse on an energetic level.  It is often used in purification and healing blends.   Lemon can also be used when someone is having trouble letting go and moving on.  It is sometimes used at the end of Palliative care to help someone move forward into the final transition.

Caution: Cold expressed lemon has phototoxic properties.  Safe to use for all inhalation methods, but caution should be applied with topically apple method and exposure to sun or UV rays should be avoided for 12 hours after use.  Steam distilled lemon is non-phototoxic and can be used on the skin all the time.
