Lemongrass for Discernment

The card I chose for my Sunday Essential Oil Reflection is Lemongrass.  Lemongrass is for discernment and it can also helps one to ‘forgive and forget’!

There are two variations of Lemongrass available, West Indian and East Indian.  While chemically very similar there are some differences.  Both have  a strong lemon like aroma, which to me, is reminiscent of citronella.

West Indian lemongrass has analgesic, antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, carminative, fungicidal, sedative and tonic properties, while East Indian lemongrass has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, sedative and digestive tonic properties.  Both can be helpful for stress related conditions, nervous exhaustion, and depression.  While West Indian Lemongrass can help with lack of concentration and morning fatigue, East Indian Lemongrass is calming.

Both Lemongrasses, with their antifungal, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, are helpful for acne, athlete’s foot, skin parasites and bruises.  They are also both an insect repellent.  Both can be used for arthritis, after sports muscle pain, and bruises.

 W. I. Lemongrass can be helpful in stopping bleeding, while E.I. Lemongrass is an immune stimulant.  Both can also be used for colitis, indigestion and gastro-enteritis.  While W.I. Lemongrass has been used to help induce menstruation.

Energetically, Lemongrass brings light to the conscious mind.  It stimulates the left brain by tempering concrete logical thoughts with spirituality.

Lemongrass can also help when discernment is needed. It has also been used effectively in blends and synergies created to clear and deal with regrets and shame. It can help one to ‘forgive and forget’.

Caution: Avoid use during pregnancy.  Dermal application on hypersensitive, diseased or damaged skin and children under 2 years of age.
