Inanna was the goddess card that just out from Kris Waldherr's Goddess Inspiration Oracle Deck this month. Join me in the Meditation and Energy Healing Session with the goddess Inanna as she leads us on a journey through the darkness to emerge reborn.
Kris Waldherr calls Inanna Queen Moon, with the Keywords: The Heavens, Strength, Resurrection and the Message: If you descend into darkness, you can emerge unscathed. In the introduction to her Goddess Inspiration Oracle Guide she says: Affirmations offer a direct way to put the Divine Feminine into action. They allow us to change negative thought patters, thus freeing us to create a new road map for our lives. Affirmations also empower us to be self-sufficient - since we are giving ourselves positive feedback, we are not so reliant on others for praise. All of her Goddess Messages can easily be changed to an Affirmation. Inanna’s Affirmation: I descend into darkness and remain unscathed.
She continues:
Inanna, the great goddess of the Bronze Age, was honored as the Queen of Heaven. Some believed she was clothed with the stars. Her name translates as “Queen Moon”; the story of her descent and return from the underworld explains her connection to that celestial body.
Inanna’s sister, Ereshkigal, was the goddess of death. One day, Inanna descended to the land of the dead to visit her sister. But instead of showing her hospitality, Ereshkigal killed her sister and hung her corpse on a stake. While Inanna was trapped beneath the earth, the moon disappeared from the night sky; all things ceased to grow. After three days, the water god obtained access to Inanna’s corpse. He sprinkled it with the water of life, resurrecting Inanna, and she returned to the upper world, bring the moon, and all of life back with her.
In The Book of Goddesses, she says:
One way to interpret this myth is that Inanna’s trip to and from the land of the dead describes the waning and waxing of the moon. However, it also suggests the transformation all women face when the descend to the depths held within themselves. As such, Ereshkigal symbolizes the darkest side of the psyche, what the psychologist Carl Jung called “the shadow”. However, Inanna’s triumph over the forces of the underworld offers hope. If we face the darkness within, we will emerge reborn – just as the moon is born anew each cycle.
Patricia Monaghan, in her book The Goddess Path, Myths, Invocations & Rituals gives Inanna the Keyword: Inner Strength. In part of her chapter on the Symbols of Inanna she says:
A symbol often associated with Inanna is the star. As queen of heaven, she appears in both the morning and the evening star, which comfort her children and remind them of her love. In the morning, Inanna brings light to all our mundane tasks, while in the evening she brings us the soft prospects of love. In her stellar aspect, then, she is both a guide and a protector.
Where in your life could you use Inanna’s energy for support. What qualities or attributes of hers could enhance your life?
