Spikenard for Hope

The card I chose for my Sunday Essential Oil Reflection is Spikenard.  Spikenard is for hope, it is comforting and balancing for the Heart!

Spikenard has a sweet, warm, woody, earthy aroma.  It has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, bactericidal, calmative, deodorant, fungicidal, nervine, regenerative, sedative and tonic properties.  The essential oil is obtained through steam  distillation of the dried, crushed rhizomes and roots.  Spikenard can help to calm restlessness and it is used in blends to inspire devotion, generosity and a deep inner peace.

Spikenard can be used for skin care blends dealing with allergies, rashes, psoriasis, inflammation, wound healing and mature skin. Spikenard’s calming and sedative properties make it helpful for insomnia, nervous indigestion, migraine, stress and tension. It has also been used in blends dealing with hemorrhoids.  Spikenard has also been used in blends designed to help regulate the heartbeat, as well as blends dealing with cardiac pains that originate from a nervous origin.  It has also been included in constipation blends.  

Energetically, Spikenard embodies wholeness and promotes a sense of hope.  It comforts and balances the heart, especially for people who take on the cares of the world.  It can be used when one feels overwhelmed by the suffering around one.  It is also very helpful at times when we need to develop compassion.
